We all live in a technology and media-driven environment, marked by access to an abundance of information, rapid changes in technology tools and the ability to collaborate and make individual contributions on an unprecedented scale. Effective citizens and workers must be able to exhibit a range of functional and critical thinking skills using Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Our goal is for students to use ICT devices as a tool to support key processes in learning – accessing, organising, processing and publishing information, collaboration, creativity and communication – and for staff to use them as an environment to facilitate deeper engagement in learning and higher-ordering thinking. All students in year 6 have a KICE supplied iPad and students in years 7 to 12 have a KICE supplied laptop to support their learning at school and home. At KICE we supply every teacher and SSO with a laptop. There are also laptops in Early Years classrooms or laptop trollies nearby. Laptops are purchased each year from the ICT budget with our returned laptops being utilized in the computer rooms & Early Years classrooms at each campus. Our laptop program provides staff and students with the opportunity to explore a range of online programs. The iPad is the chosen device for our year 6 students across KICE, these are light weight and very portable making them a great device for introducing them to this technology. We also provide iPads in class sets of 5 to each Early Years classroom across KICE. We manage all our iPads in conjunction with DfE through a Mobile Device Management System called Jamf, this allows us to track and deploy apps and settings appropriate for each user and group.
